On Sunday 21st June, the Five Mile Road played host to the second sprint of the Jersey Motorcycle and Light Car Club’s calendar. Competitors arrived early to clear skies and rising heat, with temperatures climbing to just shy of 30 degrees Celsius by the afternoon. Nearly 50 competitors took part, with vehicles ranging from road cars and racing cars to superbikes and sidecars, some reaching speeds in excess of 140mph.

Jack Hinton was the sole record breaker of the day as he smashed the 1401-1600cc Rally Cars class record which had stood since December 2015. Jack and his Vauxhall Nova were on fine form as he claimed a new record in the first official run. He would improve twice throughout the event to end the day with his new record standing at 13.71 seconds, a margin of 0.49 seconds over the previous best.  Alongside his current record at Bouley Bay in the same car, Jack is proving to be the one to beat in class.

Elsewhere, a new record was set in the Modified Specialist Production up to 1400cc class as Basil Jeanne powered his Westfield to the finish line in a time of 13.13 seconds.

The 351-500cc Supermoto class saw a strong 16-rider field, with Adam Vibert taking the win just ahead of Jack Clayden and Rory Hidrio.

Paul Traylen claimed two class wins riding two different motorcycles. In the 501-750cc class he took victory ahead of Zak Simpson, while in the 751-1000cc class he headed Greg Mansell in second.

The next sprint is scheduled for Saturday, 17th October but before then, action returns to Bouley Bay on Tuesday 14th July as the island plays host to a spectacular round of the British Hillclimb Championship.
