TREBERT DUO TUSSLE FOR RALLY CAR RECORD

15th March, 2025

The Jersey Motorcycle & Light Car Club's speed events got underway for 2025 on Saturday 15th March with a bumper entry of over 50 competitors for the sprint along the Five Mile Road. The event, in association with motorcycle dealership The Mansell Collection, saw the pit area at La Pulente bustling with action and amongst the large entry were a good selection of newcomers raring to put themselves and their machines to the test.

Weather conditions, according to the forecast, were set to be pivotal, however the showers that were due once again narrowly missed the quarter-mile course. Cooler than average temperatures and a bitterly cold headwind were instead the challenge of the day.

Guernseyman Paul Trebert, fresh from his solid Guernsey Rally result, was visiting in his Ford Escort Mk2. Sharing the car with son Jamie Trebert in the Rally Cars 1601-2000cc class, the pair were both showing good pace early on in the day. The existing record from 2013 was soon under threat and both drivers would go on to beat Steve Leonard's twelve-year-old time of 12.73 seconds. Ultimately it was father Paul who claimed the new record with a time of 12.69 seconds, narrowly ahead of son Jamie with a respectable time of 12.72 seconds.

Colin Malzard in his Austin Mini once again put his name in the record books. This time in the Modified Production Cars up to 1400cc class. With a time not previously set for this class, this throws down the gauntlet for any improvements or future competitors.

On two wheels, the experienced Paul Traylen took claim to the fastest time of the day on his Yamaha R1 with a time of 10.66 seconds.

Meanwhile the fastest car of the day was the OMS CF04 driven by Michael Salmon, his time of 11.17 seconds topping the four-wheeled contingents.
