RECORDS SMASHED IN SPRING SUNSHINE
14th March 2026
by Ryan Hidrio
The JMC&LCC returned to the Five Mile Road on Saturday 14 March for their first event of the 2026 season.
Nearly 50 competitors made the most of the sunny conditions, with any remaining dampness – or even thoughts of rain – having cleared by mid-morning. The new season brought with it some new faces and new vehicles, alongside many experienced racers.

Two records were broken during the meeting, one of them by returning driver Charles Humpleby in his Caterham CSR 260. Chasing his own benchmark from just five months earlier, Humpleby was slightly off the pace to begin with. However, in his final two runs of the day everything came together, and he beat his existing record twice in consecutive runs, eventually lowering the Road Going Specialist Production Unlimited class mark to 13.24 seconds.
Len Amy was another driver chasing a record of his own. Piloting his Mallock Mk32 in his first event at the Five Mile Road since 2024, Amy was just a tenth of a second off his best in the first few official runs. With some great runs in the afternoon, he just slipped under the record by one hundredth of a second; then, with his final run of the day, he improved further to leave the Sports Libre 1601-2000 class record standing at 10.79 seconds.
A good turnout for motorcycles ensured plenty of close action. In the Motorcycles Unlimited class, Ryan Hidrio held off an improving Jake Holland as both riders ended the day on identical times of 10.54 seconds.
Paul Traylen topped the 751-1000cc Motorcycles class with Greg Mansell and Charlie Hart taking 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Elsewhere, Jack Clayden claimed victory in the 351-500 Supermoto class, finishing ahead of James Bertie Roberts, with Rory Hidrio rounding out the top three.
Paul Traylen once again set the fastest time of the day on his Yamaha R1, with Ryan Hidrio and Jake Holland sharing equal second. Michael Salmon was the quickest car driver once again, in his OMS CF04.
