Sand Racing
27 April 2013
13 Bikes and 16 Cars were at the start line for the first official sand race of the 2013 Larsen Limited Season.

4 Junior Cars started with all 4 being 14 and 15 years old. Ed Fossey dominated the meeting with 5 firsts closely contested with Jayson Baudain and Brooke Slatter one of the ladies racing in this class pushing her way through the line up to come third in all three championship races. In this class there are two females Brooke Slatter who is just 14 and Alex Jones who unfortunately due to illness was unable to start the race this time. All the juniors worked to build and maintain their cars.
Ed Fossey took the Oldridge Cup for Junior Cars at this meeting.

Starting a new season and a new experience was Joshua Troy on a 65cc bike Joshua is 8 years old and he took the Nicholle Rose Bowl Trophy. Joshua was very nervous before starting but showed determination and courage out on the track. Greg Hawley took first in all five races with Rhys and Sheona Le Roy bitting at his heels in this first meeting of the season.

Jamie Howarth has progressed from 85cc to 125cc Bike and is now competing with the adults after dispensation from the ACU. He did extremely well racing with Daniel Lagadu and 4 other adult bikes all 450cc over five races. Daniel Lagadu won 3 out of 5 races with Oliver De Feu hotly on his tail wining two of them.

The Sliders had a great days racing with not ideal beach conditions for them with Jamie Griffiths taking the most first places.

In the standard production classes in the up to 1400cc Katie Sty one of our female adults took firsts in all five races being pushed all the way by Lawrence Slatter in his Honda Civic.

In the 1400- 1600cc Class Connor Andrews in his Honda CRX won all five races being pushed by newcomer Andy Smith in his VW Golf Andy has only started this year and it was his first official race.

1601- 2000cc Class saw a return to racing by Alan Moullin in his Green Alfa Romeo winning all but one race loosing that one to our second adult female Zoe Hodder who is in her second season. With newcomer to Sand racing Rob Harrison in his BMW.

The very entertaining Toyota MR2 class was a mixed set of results with Graeme Le Cornu taking three wins but being chased by James Carrell and Drew Jones.

Wayne Le Marquand was the only competitor in a Racing Car/ Beach Buggy this is his return to racing after many years he did very well and his very excited about the season.

We always like to thank the relevant authorities for allowing us the use of the beach and to St Johns Ambulance and Paramedics who always turn out to support us on the beach just in case they maybe needed.
