The first Championship Moto-x of the JMC & LCC got under way at the weekend at Sorel Point, which saw Joshua Connery lift the Cameron’s Ltd trophy of the day in the small wheel 85cc class, after a close battle with Adam Godwin. The majority of these youngsters have all moved up from the 65cc class and Connery and Godwin have resumed their battle from last season, when Connery narrowly beat Godwin in the overall 65cc championship. Both lads had training over half term and this showed as they pulled ahead of the rest of the field. Connery won two races, while Godwin won one, but he was unlucky in the third race when he got the ‘holeshot’ but stalled his bike and the rest of the field left him behind. But the plucky 10 year old De La Salle student rode fantastically to catch up with Connery, but it was a little bit to late. Damian Ribiero and Luca Darren had their own private battle for third and fourth place with Ribiero having the upper hand. Toby Norman, Rhys Le Roy and Greg Hawley also had a good event.
Connor Gautron also picked up the Camerons’ Trophy in the 65cc class.
Over the winter months, the track has been redesigned and now runs in the opposite direction and the spectators can get close to the action as they watch the top riders jumping down towards the point. The A group saw three different winners on the day. Toby Luce won the first race and was also leading the second race, when having taken the last lap flag he ran out of petrol. This allowed Sam Allix to take the win, but only a wheel length ahead of Lee Le Viellez. These three together with Daniel Moon, Declan Hussey, Brad Le Feuvre and Matthew Rayson were all battling for the top places. In the Grand Final which consists of 20 minutes plus one lap, it was 16 year old Matthew Rayson who led from start to finish. In his first senior event, the Hautlieu student was delighted to take the chequered flag from Toby Luce and Sam Allix.
Charlie Morris took the three wins in the B group and the 2012 champion is looking to retain his trophy, Aaron Baudin, who was over from university for the weekend took the runner up spot in the three races, whilst Thomas Mollet on his new Yamaha 125cc bike was third.
In the Veteran class, Michael Gautron had the better of Michael Norman in all their races.
Eliott Jackson will be hard to beat in the Big Wheel 85cc class as he lapped all the competitors and took three wins. He was followed home by Jack Clayden in all three races.
The next event is 24th March and admission is Free.
The Moto-x committee thanked Paramedic Jason Hamon, Nurse Isobel Hamon, Members of the SJAB and Normandy Rescue and residents of the Parish. Also to the marshals who braved the cold weather. |
